Is this an evolutionary process? Is it human error? Is it a godsend – a yet to be understood, immature, undisciplined, descendant of the digital divine? What gives rise to this cyberself? There have to be others searching for an answer. As I mentioned in my last post, my cyberself is indeed running amuck, filling shopping carts, boldly and blindly commenting at every opportunity, and claiming authoritative stances often blurring the lines between cyberspace and my space. One can only ask, does this cyberself have a cypersoul? If there is a cybersoul, there would at least be some hope. Knowing a moral code has been written on the hard drive of destiny would be a blessing. I could rest from the undertow of urgency pulling at me to rein in this allusive new part of myself that is looped in holy hallucination. And to add to the pressure, if I were truly faithful I would not question what will probably become known as the immaculate emergence of this hallowed hyperlink – the cyberself – the new digital selfhood living in cyberspace – connected to and through the Almighty Internet (AI). Just click, and you’re there, or rather the cyberself is there. There is no judgment day – heaven is only a click away. It sounds simple, but therein lies the double-edged sword, and the story of the infamous Apple (Inc.) and the Tree of Knowledge. As you may know, my obsession is using the computer culture as an overlay for personal exploration. Here is TechTarget.com’s definition of “cyber.” “Cyber is a prefix used to describe a person, thing, or ideas as part of the computer information age.” Again, it’s simple enough, but think how complex things become when you consider cyberstalking, cybercasts, cyberbullying, cybercafés, cyberterrorism, cyberpunk, cybernation, cyber Monday, not to mention viruses, identity theft, malvertising, and fake news. We need a cybersoul. Talk about looped, I’m feeling dizzy and overwhelmed just thinking about this Digital New Age (DNA) in which we are living. Obviously, the DNA is not as fully developed in me as in some others. I should be able to reach beyond my rational thinking. What am I questioning? Of course, the Apple programming prophets and seers at Oracle wrote code for a cybersoul. They knew how important control (and currency) and cybersecurity would become. Discipline is merely a part of the divine dilemma. We are indeed blessed. I cease my search. That is, I cease my search for the cybersoul. The Self SEARCH continues. Join me. |
