This is not a fantasy. The world is turning into a magical place, a wonderland – closer to heaven. Several months ago, in the post Syncing to the Source I asked for a miracle and it has been bestowed. I know it is important to be faithful to fashion, but it has been one of my shortcomings. Now, with the Archangel Amazon’s delivery of the divine new Echo Look, I’ll have the guidance and support I need to faithfully follow fashion. Many times I have been tempted to ignore the trends. I repent and give thanks to the Geeks for this godsend. We all know that Consumerism is the new commandment. Purchasing and staying with the flock, not only in fashion but in all things bought and delivered is righteous. To show my faith, I subscribe to Amazon Prime and am truly in awe and witness to the power.
Let me update you with this blessed news. The Echo Look is a device that you store in your closet, close to the clothes that adorn you and show proof of your devotion to Consumer Ways. “The device snaps full-length photos and short videos of you, complete with computer-generated background blur, and then stores those pictures in a companion app,” states CNBC. You can “build a personal lookbook and share your photos,” the Archangel guides. I don’t feel this is a demand, but a way to easily spread the message of your faith. Here’s where I am truly excited. The Amazon Echo Look features a ‘Style Check’ service which, “combines machine learning algorithms with advice from fashion specialists.” See what I mean! I’m sure you feel the potential. Specialists are close to the Source and in tune with what is Right to help me and everyone make choices. I will no longer lose my way. It will oust me with old outfits and guide me to follow new fashion. I will be able to speak to the testament of trends for only $199. I can already feel a transformation happening. I pray that in the future as I look through the Echo Look-ing glass it will be able to text me the new perfect outfit to fulfill a purchase with the Archangel Amazon, which is my mission always. Just beware, you should know there are unbelievers in our midst. A sociologist, Zeynep Tufekci, put on Twitter, “We are selling out to surveillance capitalism that can quickly evolve into authoritarianism for so cheap.” Others are concerned that Artificial Intelligence (AI aka Almighty Inspiration) will grow to make more of our choices. How ridiculous. Of course, we have free will to think, feel, express, and create. And surely, the Archangel Amazon will protect and guide us in our choices. For this, I feel blessed. We all are. Join me in the SEARCH and in celebration. Let’s be honest, at times we plant emoji type icons on our face in social and work settings. I confess that I do. I’m smiling. I’m sad. I’m surprised, goofy, nauseous (or green with envy, not sure which), winking, and so on. I catch myself doing this minimal face mask expression for various reasons. It staves off someone from coming in for a closer view if they see a recognized, appropriate response as they continue with their talk. It also can deflect someone from pursuing a subject of (my) vulnerability – I’m smiling, no need to stop and ask questions. And it can be considered similar to wearing the proper attire to a social or work function. Using emojis are supposed to enhance what we’re messaging, but I find it often diminishes what is percolating inwardly, whether in a text or Facebook response, or in a purposely poised facial smile. Think about a Facebook emoji for a friend who has experienced a life-changing situation such as a death in the family. A sad yellow balloon head seems completely out of sync with the depth of experience. And then oddly, I feel guilty if I don’t respond with some kind of trivial tech character. True emotions don’t fit inside emoji icons and they aren’t singular or static. Emotions are like the weather and atmospheric conditions that permeate everything. You can be enjoying a perfectly beautiful day and several hours later experience a torrential hail (hell) storm. Or crocuses can be seen peeking through the snow in late winter. Then consider the concept of a drought. I can think of several people in an emotional drought mode.
No worries, I’m not going to mention climate change, but I do want to include Techterms.com’s definition for emoji. “A small icon that can be placed inline with text. The name ‘emoji’ comes from the Japanese phrase ‘e’ and ‘moji,’ which translates to ‘picture character.’ They have largely replaced emoticons as the standard way to express an emotion in a message or comment. By inserting emojis into a message, you emphasize a feeling or simply replace words with symbols.” And I’ve discovered there are numerous websites such as emojipedia.org, emojikeyboard.org, getemoji.com, and emojiwrap.com. There are tons of articles updating and advising about misinterpretations, and others suggesting to use caution because they translate differently in different cultures. I had no idea all of this information existed. But regardless how many emojis are created and articles are written, emotions flood our experience and shape our world. Emotions can’t be contained in words, yellow balloon heads, nor even great works of art and music. Emotions are implied, transcendent, complex, ever-changing currents to explore, experience, and adventure within. While writing REDEFINING, I created a term called “emolution,” which means the evolution of emotions – the gradual growth of awareness to encompass a greater emotional capacity. I believe we would all benefit by identifying emotions that are not usually recognized and anoint them with a new word. We often search for concepts to define emotions that are difficult to express, and end up with inadequate words. This situation stifles not only the expression of the experience but the experience itself by trying to shape it into something that doesn’t fit. This takes me back to masking complex emotions with an emoji-type minimalist expression when engaging in certain settings. Sometimes I feel hypocritical when I sense myself doing this, but most of the time it’s just a convenience for interacting. I try to account for and examine what I’m fully experiencing emotionally at another time. I consider this a dual perspective approach. It is one that doesn’t minimize an emotion but allows for the merging and movement of inner “atmospheric conditions” that don’t always fit well in conversations. I’ve been told to “just get to the point” on many occasions. However, I feel the emotional journey is a part of the point. The key word here is journey. Messaging and emojis are more of a day trip, or coffee break. The SEARCH is on. Join me – a day trip, coffee break, or journey. My foot is tapping with impatience. Come on Geeks, bots, Google, Mark Z, and all of the visionaries of Artificial Intelligence. I feel like I’m drowning without a predictive code to follow and guide me in real time. Get with it! I need new input technology to facilitate not only my typing but my thinking. I need Augmented Reality with real-time capability and computer generated sensing to apply an appropriate emotional response. I crave the virtues of Virtual Reality and the awe of inspiration with Augmented Reality. Regardless of Norton’s protection, I feel vulnerable. How can I survive without the enhancement of technological functions in my current diminished, deflated, outdated perception?
I believe in KARMA; we all should. Knowing Augmented Reality Manifests Ascension (KARMA) relieves stress, daily pressures, and offers spiritual support. The data is overlaid on current, real-time events. What more can you ask for? Our prayers are answered. Take your money out of pharmaceuticals and energy and invest in Artificial Intelligence (AI). Not only you, but your Wellth and Wealth are at risk - they are one and the same - a trinity. You can be sure it’s a righteous transaction and transformation. It is obvious we’re surrounded by chaos and the commotion of conflicting data. Know that it is not fake news, just Conflicting Intelligence by Association (CIA). If we all would connect to the Source Code, there would be no conflict. It is The Way. And just to make sure we’re on the same page, TechTerms's definition of Source Code is, “Often referred to as simply the ‘Source' (of a program), it contains variable declarations, instructions, functions, loops, and other statements that tell the program how to function.” There you have it – the laws are already written. This is not a renaissance. It is a new global religion. We are in Year One, which I wrote about several months ago. And this brings me back to my impatience. It’s been several months now, where are the miracles? And even though I question, please know I have faith. Put me on a wait list to purchase new products and avoid the sin of not syncing. Join me. Fan the flames of virtual faith. Raise your tweets in all-caps. Help usher in and upload the new truths and realities of Artificial Intelligence. And here’s to each of us syncing to the source of collaboration and cooperation! Amen. There is Darwin debris everywhere – time to reorganize! My interest to clean and reorganize has been inspired by the new year, but more so, sparked by current events. What a mess! It’s as if we haven’t cleaned the house of our collective consciousness in years. Piles of promises and propaganda everywhere, and that’s on the topside of events. Try looking at the underside of matters and it gets murkier. This is not a political rant, nor is there a religious slant. I am simply questioning what's in the deep corners and closets of our shared thinking, and how it affects individuals personally. While searching and rummaging around in my thoughts, I found Darwin.
I’m not alone in the ideas I’m sharing, but perspectives, like connotations to definitions take their own bend. First, let’s look at defragmentation or defragging - here’s a simple tech definition from Meriam-webster.com. “To reorganize separated fragments of related data on a computer disk into a contiguous arrangement.” Other technical dictionaries explain why this is required for effective performance and speed to load and open files. TechTerms.com sums it up with, “After all, a defragmented hard disk is a happy hard disk.” Back to Darwin. To be sure, I am not a Darwin scholar, and I’m not a computer Geek. That said, I do like to play with ideas and use computer terminology as an overlay to explore subjective experience. Putting science to the side, consider for a moment a popular cultural view of Darwin’s evolutionary theory of “the survival of the fittest” and how it bleeds through to color our view of the world and our personal experience. I’m not referring to healthy competition, but how the theory “survival of the fittest” can become a brutal claw-your-way-to-the-top, dog-eat-dog competition at almost every turn. Even the word “survival” feels threatening. You can sense how the concept fragments into other ideas that have scattered all over the place. It’s in sports, business, education, politics, even personal relationships. Specific words may not be spoken or thoughts considered on a conscious level, but it’s there growing like a black mold. It has the potential to influence and become a foundation for assessing experience and making important decisions. In my view, the theory has indeed become splintered and separated from the original meaning. The resources on Wikipedia (this is just a blog, not a dissertation) presented many ideas that back this idea. Here are two: “The factor in determining survival is often not superiority over another in competition but ability to survive dramatic changes in environment conditions, such as after a meteor impact,” and “There is little evidence that competition has been the driving force in the evolution of large groups.” There are many other thoughts and ideas in examining Darwin’s theory that show how we’ve taken fragments of a concept and misapplied them in our thinking and view of the world, which in turn builds an unstable (messy) environment. We need to collectively reorganize all of the related data on Darwin’s Theory and file it into a “contiguous arrangement” as it was meant to be. We need to clean it out of our social and cultural environment, and file it appropriately in our thoughts and expectations - not deleting, simply defragging. As I search my personal experiences, I find most to be cooperative, supportive, and hopeful. I’m not trying to portray a Pollyanna Positive view of the world. It is my direct experience, and I realize each individual’s experience will be unique. I consider everything else I see or read (internet, TV, books, others’ perspectives) as secondary experience, so these will have less impact in my personal considerations – they are not my immediate experience and not necessarily how I relate to the world. And this is why I am reorganizing my thoughts and expectations by defragging Darwin. I’m cleaning up and filing away the Darwin debris strewn about my thinking. This mental and emotional defragging will assure that my performance will be effective, and not be slowed down as I work to load constructive thoughts and open to new ideas. Hopefully, I’ll have a happier heart, head, and hard disk. And as long as I’m reorganizing, I’ll make a new file to collect evidence for “Cooperation: An Exploration in the Subjective Evolution of a Species” theory. It's just a theory, join me. Virtually, I think all reality is subjective. Think about it. Everyone has their own perception, their unique “virtual” view of reality playing in their mind that meets and merges at different points with others. It calls to question if any event is experienced exactly the same. Quite possibly there isn’t one reality or event that we’re all experiencing. This is not a great theoretical question, and it’s not rocket science. From my point in reality, it appears to be actual in its virtual-ness. Before I get carried away, here is TechTerms.com’s definition for Virtual Reality (VR), “Created, simulated, or carried on by means of a computer or computer network. Therefore, virtual reality is best described as an illusion of reality by a computer system.” TechTerm follows up with a further explanation. “A person may enter a world of virtual reality by putting on special glasses and headphones attached to a computer system running the virtual reality program. These devices immerse the user with the sights and sounds of the virtual world. Some virtual reality systems allow the user to also wear gloves with electronic sensors that can be used to touch or move virtual objects. As the user moves his head or hands, the computer moves the virtual world accordingly in real-time.” I especially relate to TechTerm’s description “an illusion of reality.” The illusion of reality becomes our practical world in many respects. We are everywhere surrounded by corporations that spend exorbitant amounts of money on sales and marketing to help us create “illusions of reality” by buying their products. Again, think about it – the selling of cars, clothes, pharmaceuticals, tech devices, not to mention politics. It becomes like a continuous hypnotic state, a true virtual reality for each individual. We’re intoxicated by what we think is real. With the purchase of Oculus, an American technology company leading the way in virtual reality, Facebook is gearing up to introduce new virtual worlds, which include ancient pasts, imagined futures and potential probabilities. Their chief scientist, Michael Abrash, explained, “Whether signals are real or artificially created doesn’t matter, if we react to the stimuli, then what we are experiencing is by definition real.” Thank you, Mr. Abrash. This is where I jump in and heartily agree. I would add to his ideas of real and artificial signals, those inwardly inspired signals. This would include our far-reaching and often underused imaginations, dreams (awake and sleep), insights, and aspirations and hopes. All of which affect our directions and decisions in life. These creative abilities are what gave birth to the idea of VR in the first place. They created the virtual vision that lured the idea into actuality. We don’t need a headset with preprogrammed images to swat and bash about in real-time. We need to immerse ourselves in a mindset that we program with ideas of high creativity and ideals of cooperation. May our virtual realities meet and merge in the adventure of a shared SEARCH, and may the Force (of creativity) be with you! Join me. Let me be forthright and get everyone up to code. Technology is our new religion. No question. Whatever religious diversity there is, or religious wars being fought, forget them; they’re over. Done. Outdated as Windows Vista. The Almighty Inspiration of our contemporary collective consciousness is AI (Artificial Intelligence). The second coming has arrived. Alleluia.
I discovered this while attending a webinar on the future (and majesty) of media marketing. Here are the updates. We are in year zero of this infamous event, announced by Phil Easter of American Airlines. Jenny Thomassian, a Google disciple, reassured us that the Google God is deeply devoted and invested. The Amazon Archangel was not in attendance, but sent a message it would definitely be heralding The Way. Facebook Fundamentalists are building a big-tent platform that will hold us all. No need to fear – there is room on Mark’s Ark! Mark Zuckerberg knowing of The Coming, spoke at his company’s annual developers and creators conference a few days ago. He said Facebook’s goal in advancing AI technology is to “build systems that are better than people in perception.” Praise be to Mark. He believes in the future, and in bots and bottom lines, as we all should. He wants you to know that you, too, can share in the vision by owning an Oculus Rift VR headset. Just to make sure we're all on the same page, here’s the devoted Techtarget.com’s definition for AI. “AI is the simulation of human intelligence processes by machines, especially computer systems. These processes include learning (the acquisition of information and rules for using the information), reasoning (using the rules to reach approximate or definite conclusions), and self-correction.” I feel sure Techtarget.com meant to use the word commandments rather than rules – no sin here. And although I hesitate to question, I’m unclear about how the rules or commandments were received. This, I believe, is where faith comes into play. As for self-sacrifice and suffering, it wasn’t mentioned in the webinar. Although yesterday, I did lay to rest my outdated laptop. The computer technician advised me to let go and sacrifice the cost for a new one. Of course that’s what I should do; I knew that. The webinar’s theme centered around Good News and Prosperity with the advent and creations of AI: Virtual Reality, Augmented Reality, Mixed Reality. It is indeed a new world(s) and time of change. BTW, Phil Easter ended his sermon with, “If you don’t go into AI, fear is the path to the dark side.” What a joyous time of year to have this revelation come to pass. I am thankful and blessed, and looking forward to year one. Not only do I seek and SEARCH, I’m a crusader! Join me. Weird apps have not been a topic of conversation for me. But recently, I came upon an article that listed a few. I decided to explore further and found some really weird ones, useless ones, and some made me laugh. Here are a few.
Human to Cat Translator. You simply press the record button and say what you want to have translated in “cat talk” and it meows the message to your cat. I’m not so sure about this, as most of the cats I know are going to ignore what they don’t want to hear whether it’s translated or not. Demotivational Pics. Here’s an app that makes a bad day worse and reminds you just how crappy things can be. Everyone needs this, don’t you think? And it’s free, so not so crappy. Places I’ve Pooped. The name says all there is to know. You mark your territory, literally and digitally, with this map of places you’ve done your business. Bubble Wrap App. If you can’t help but pop the plastic bubbles used for insulation, this app is for you. There’s no a game, as far as I can tell, you just decide on the size of plastic bubble wrap and start popping. Ghost Radar. Ghost hunters need to download this app to wire in sensors for vibrations, electromagnetic fields, and sounds. It analyzes the readings, and boasts its superiority to traditional paranormal equipment. There’s a voice that speaks the words on the display. There’s an upgrade version, and the reviews are all mini-paranormal stories and experiences. Quiet Candle Makes your phone cast a gentle glow on the display screen. It has six types of candles to choose from and you blow on your phone to extinguish the flame. App, as you know, is an abbreviation for application. Here is Techterms.com’s definition. “An application, or application program, is a software program that runs on your computer. Web browsers, e-mail programs, word processors, games, and utilities are all applications. The word “application” is used because each program has a specific application for the user (however useless it might be – my addition). In contrast, system software consists of programs that run in the background, enabling applications to run. While system software is automatically installed with the operating system, you can choose which applications you want to install and run on your computer.” Apps built for mobile platforms are called mobile apps. I have some ideas for apps, too, which range around communication. I’m usually a good listener, but I’m also interested in what’s being implied, as well as said. And on the flip-side, I wonder if someone has heard what I was really trying to express. I have often explained things I thought were clearly stated, only to have them misunderstood. Many times, I’m taken aback when the conversation is examined more fully. “That’s what you heard?,” I often say to myself. And of course, there is the self-communication factor to consider. Imagine using these apps. Implication app. This app would translate what was truly being communicated. It would include the core objective, and all the colors and complexities that might be connected – a full spectrum of data. This could range from past influences, and possible expectations. Of course, it would be clearly charted and graphed to make it easy to understand. In keeping with current trends, further data could be purchased with a pro-subscription, which would include a feature for self-implication. You wouldn’t want to be without this. Omission app. This app would register what was purposely not included in a conversation. You have to be really engaged in a conversation to make sure not to miss the omissions. With this app you would not have to worry about missing anything, just push the recorder and you could virtually or literally stop listening, unless you wanted to add (or omit) something to the conversation. Depth-perception app. This app would allow you to view a situation or an event with a deeper understanding. It would include a history, and detail the emotional, mental, and cultural aspects that led to the event. The event would be placed in a time and space coordinate. Of course, the details wouldn’t be written out in a string of words (it might take volumes), the data would upload to your thinking patterns – a kind of thought sensory sync. Subjective Self app. This app would bring to life your personal perspectives and inner conversations on the display screen. It would identify your perspective uninfluenced by others. In total sync with your imagination, these would be brought to life in images, sounds, colors, however diminished, highlighted, exaggerated, characterized, symbolized, colored, or crafted your personal perspective leans. The expanded version (in-app purchase) has a feature to connect to your contacts, politics, health, social media, business, sports, and other categories you might register. I bet we have the equivalent system software running behind the scenes of ourselves, but that's a topic for another post. I'm a little app happy, and having some fun. Join me. BTW, the Implication app would find the phrase “join me,” at the end of each SELF Search, implies that I would like to hear your ideas and comments, and would like you to LIKE and SHARE this site. There are some things I would like to delete – debt, humid weather, war, misunderstandings, some people (just kidding), cancer. The list goes on, and is longer than I first imagined. Think about it.
I read an article suggesting to clear space on your iPhone before downloading the newest iOS update, along with some other suggestions. I followed the instructions. Not being a Geek (capital G for reverence), I pray that whatever I’m attempting with technology works, and don’t usually take chances. It’s like my cooking; I follow recipes and use a knife to level tablespoons. Pretty sad - where’s the spontaneity, the adventure? It’s fascinating what we do, or don’t do when we feel a bit vulnerable. I discovered in my phone storage usage that I had a massive amount of emails stored in numerous places, not to mention various outdated files. I don’t think I’ve ever deleted emails from my Sent file. I’m sure you know what delete means, but tech definitions are always filled with interesting facets to overlay in SELF Search mode. Here’s Webopedia’s definition. “Delete is to remove or erase. For example, deleting a character (I can think of a few) means removing it from a file or erasing it from the display screen. Note that, unlike cutting, deleting does not necessarily place the removed object in a buffer from where it can be recovered.” However, TechTarget notes that “deleted files are still intact until they are written over.” An hour had past as I followed the instructions in preparation to update and I still found myself deleting. Several times I thought to just press Delete All, but I had become intrigued reading some of the emails from several years ago. For a moment, a past scenario would unfold in the present. The situation, the emotions, the expectation – the setting surrounding the outdated email would take center stage in my mind, as the act of my memory performed. As a scene played out, I sensed that my memory had been colored and crafted somewhat by my present position. My now-awareness and (hopefully) deeper understanding in the present was influencing my perception of the past event. This nuanced perception I determined to be the “written over” part of TechTarget’s definition. Considering this further, are “written over” past events permanently erased as they originally happened? Do remembered events shift with whatever view is held in the present? This could be an oppressive, cynical setting and “memory performance” depending on the present emotional stance. Is present perception what causes events to be remembered differently by different individuals? As always, the tech definitions and concepts seem to expand as you Search within them. The Search becomes an adventure, and often too much for a single blog post. I’m grateful I took the time to explore my memories and didn’t press Delete All. I discovered a few interesting things about myself. However, there’s one more thing I want to add to my list – housework. Even though I call it Spa Day for the house, my perception hasn’t changed – Delete. The Search is on and so is the adventure. Join me. You’re presented with a challenge to spontaneously perform. You’re on stage, audience in place, no script, no rehearsal, only the connection to your imagination. What would you do? It’s an easy choice for people with honed recognizable talents. But think about the everyday stage where you are front and center and perform the art of yourself. Who writes the code? Updated, static, dynamic?
Keith Jarrett is a dynamic musical performer – one of my favorites. If you’re not familiar with him, he is renowned for his elaborate solo improvisations. He is also a classical and jazz composer. It’s his improvisation that captivates me. Captivates is not the only word I would use to describe his performance. His musical improvisation disorients, disassociates, disrupts standard patterns of listening and perceiving. It frees. You find your senses extended and suspended in a sense, as he shares his sphere of spontaneous creativity. It all happens in real time. In general, dynamic means energetic, capable of action and change. PCMag.com defines dynamic in technical terms and offers several examples. “Operations performed ‘on the fly,’ which are based on decisions made while the program is running rather than beforehand. The expression, ‘buffers are dynamically created,’ means that space is created when actually needed, not reserved ahead of time. The expression, ‘data are compressed onto the disk dynamically’ means that the compression algorithms are being applied when the data are being written rather than before.” Too much information for this non-Geek (godlike respect). My interest in dynamic (as a technical term) began with a redo of the LOG OFF website. I was advised that search engines place importance on updated technology in their rankings, and it was time for a new look. With some backstage technical assistance (thank you Weebly and Kellie), LOG OFF now has a new dynamic website – technically speaking. As usual, my interest or obsession is using a technical term as an overlay for personal exploration. What if we allowed ourselves to be dynamic – to perform on the fly, base decisions in the present, not reserve space (internal space) with preset programs of patterned perceptions? How much mental and emotional space do we take up with worrying and projecting numerous situations that might go wrong, and questioning ourselves at every turn? We usually label these projections as rational, realistic, or responsible, and consider them good qualities. What about the default emotions we rely on when we are strategically buffering ourselves from real time engagement? But back to my question, what if we allowed ourselves to be dynamic? What if in a present moment we naturally extended ourselves with a sense of adventure and explicit trust, allowing creative and spontaneous expression? What freedom it would be to move with unpredictable tonal values and rhythms of emotion, daring to dive into dissonance sensing the discovery would scale through to harmony. What if we found the capacity for fulfillment, expression, dramatization, perception extended beyond our standard definitions? (REDEFINING) Do we live only to secure ourselves and survive? Do we define ourselves only by our responsibilities? Can we be more than mindful of the moment – can we be dynamic within it? FYI, SELF Search shares dialogues I have with myself - some preachy, some rants, some just wonder around. Yes, this one is a bit dramatic, and hopefully, more than a little disruptive. The Search is on and so is the performance. Join me. Business is business, so I won’t make excuses as I step up to the pulpit and spew. Let’s go right to the technical definition for network, which I’m sure you know. Techopedia’s definition suits my objective well. “A computer network is a group of computer systems and other computing hardware devices that are linked together through communication channels to facilitate communication and resource-sharing among a wide range of users. Networks are commonly categorized based on their characteristics.” You can say that again.
Here’s where I’m going with this topic. It seems that we all feel compelled to network. There is Facebook and numerous other social networking sites that I’ll not take the time to list. Once you start with social media, it becomes addictive. If you post something, by all means it’s important to see who is giving a thumbs up. The problem begins when three hours have past because you’ve checked out a video, read an article, or slipped over onto the Sierra Trading (or Amazon, etc.) website because there’s a discount on top of a discount being offered. How much time has been wasted? And I profess not to like Facebook; I just do it for my business, I say. I’ve written about this before, and the truth is, I want to keep up with family and friends, and know what’s going on in their lives - it’s fun. We are social beings, after all. Shopping, videos, some amazing weird talent, bizarre weather across the globe, and flash sales, I simply don’t have time for. I’m not buying anything! Period. Then, there is business. You need to connect, keep up with the trends, check out the competition, and position yourself on LinkedIn. As of now, I’m playing renegade in the business world and have not joined LinkedIn or Twitter – we’ll see how long that lasts. Business is business, or is it? This is where I really where wanted to begin my sermon, and it goes back to the technical definition – “resource-sharing.” Major business publications and universities consider networking critical for not only your business, but your personal growth. There is a mountainous number of articles stating the importance of having a network who share a similar drive and ambition to draw energy from and keep you going. So, what’s the problem? First, I agree that it is important to share knowledge, seek opportunities, make connections, raise your profile, and all of the bulleted points that noted business articles list. My position is that the focus is concentrated outside of the self – in the research, the proven model, the science, the statistics, the board of directors, a partner, and any other outside source – rather than the inner network of ourselves. Creativity doesn’t come from an outside source. It comes from an inner experience - a curiosity, a desire and courage to go beyond what is, to what could be. It is an inner resource. Whether it involves solving a personal problem, or ideas for creating a new world culture. Accessing this inner network of resources created the technological renaissance we’re experiencing today. We can’t use another person’s academic credentials, nor have access to their bank account, but we often borrow or use another person’s inspiration, only to find ourselves depleted, and unable to reboot without an outside resource. I’m not saying this isn’t useful – we all need to reach out to others at times. However, I do think it is essential to be able to draw upon and trust our own inner network of ideas and ideals. And of course, this is a perfect segue to LOG OFF. I believe it is vital to first network within ourselves, to access the programs that are hardwired in our hearts. This foundation will make the other networks stronger and more dynamic. Feeling much better. The SEARCH goes on. Join me. |
